Next iPhone Is Named iPhone 4G

iPhone 4GI have no idea why so many people are assuming the name of the new iPhone coming out in June will be named the iPhone 5? Why would Apple name this phone the iPhone 5?

Let's look at the naming history of the phone.

2007 was the year of the original iPhone. It wasn't named the iPhone 3, just the iPhone. It did not support AT&T's 3G network, it only worked over Edge (2G).

2008 I got the next iPhone, this one supported the 3G network. Apple named it the iPhone 3G. The speed rocked and I was a very happy camper. I didn't have 3G in my area until a few week after I got the iPhone 3G. But it was a world of difference.

2009 the iPhone speed got faster, not the network speed, but the device speed. They named that device the iPhone 3GS, S was for speed.

2010 was the big leap from 3 to 4. I got my iPhone 4 and it wasn't any faster in terms of device or network speed, but it was a revamped design and had better features.

Okay, so you see, from iPhone to iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. What is the next logical number? 5? No! The iPhone 4 does not support AT&T's 4G network but AT&T (and Verizon) are pushing their 4G networks big time this year. In June 2011, Apple will release the iPhone 4G, not the iPhone 5.

I suspect the iPhone 4G will look pretty much the same as the iPhone 4 but fix some design flaws. It will also support one major thing, AT&Ts (and Verizons) 4G networks. I can't wait!

So why is everyone calling the next iPhone the iPhone 5?

Yes, Rob i am absolutely agree with you that Apple has to release 4G based iphone when 4G network is more spread allover the globe otherwise it is not worthy. Why should people buy it when they are not accessible with its main feature (4G)?

Do you think Apple is really going to release a 4G based LTE iPhone in July when most user's do not have access to a 4G network? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't release an iPhone this year and waiting until next year when 4G is more wide spread. That would be the smart thing to do.

Its actually amazing that your the only one saying this on the web. I am wondering this myself. My prediction; iPhone 4G will be on AT&T only. running on their HSPA+ network. OR it could be CDMA/GSM LTE and run on both, but then again AT&T's HSPA + coverage will dwarf Verizon's LTE. Also LTE is backwards compatible with HSPA+ and not with EVDO. so,,,,sorry Verizon iphoners

I don't have any inside info. But my guess.. the iPhone 4G will be a dual chip device that will work on both GSM (AT&T) and CDMA (Verizon) networks and support those 4G networks. I personally think the 4G will be released this year.

I find it amazing how much forecasting surrounds Apple's product releases. It's like watching Sam Champion tell us about an upcoming storm.

No way. It's going to be the 5. Apple just made the 3Gs so the numbering would get right and so it wouldn't confuse unknowledged consumers. Like, if the 2G is the first iPhone, and the 3G the second, what the fuck kind of numbering is that? And now with the iPhone 3Gs it got straight, because as you can see the iPhone 4 is actually the fourth generation of the device. It would be stupid if Apple called their devices after the network. Facepalm to you sir.

This is important. There are many sites that offer so called free iPhone downloads. My advice is to avoid them all together. Why? There have been complaints from users about spyware, adware and virus exposures when downloading from these sites. The free services would require you to install client software and in the process, these harmful applications get onto your computer, resulting in slower PC performance.   iPhone 5

Are you demented? They name the iPhone after the network it provides. iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g(3G connectivity), iPhone 3GS(3G connectivity, but a bit faster), iPhone 4(not 4G, due to the fact it does not have 4G connectivity). As you can see, it is only logical to say the next one will be iPhone 4G, and not 5.

No way. Are YOU demented? If Apple was some kind of service provider, it'd make sense that the iPhone would follow that pattern. Otherwise, it'll be te 5. I'm going to laugh my ass off when the iPhone 5 is unveiled.
