HealthMap contracted RustyBrick and our partner, IntuApps to build them an iPhone app that finds disease outbreaks near you or anywhere in the world. Plus, the application allows iPhone users to submit outbreaks in their area, directly to HealthMap. In addition to finding outbreaks in your area and submitting information to HealthMap, you can also search for outbreaks by disease type.
Wired has written up a detailed article on this application/ The article is named iPhone App Finds Disease Outbreaks Near You. So read that for an unbiased review and explanaiton of the application.
Yes, we were the ones who built the Swine Flu iPhone App, which is how HealthMap found us.
About HealthMap:
HealthMap brings together disparate data sources to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. This freely available Web site integrates outbreak data of varying reliability, ranging from news sources (such as Google News) to curated personal accounts (such as ProMED) to validated official alerts (such as World Health Organization). Through an automated text processing system, the data is aggregated by disease and displayed by location for user-friendly access to the original alert. HealthMap provides a jumping-off point for real-time information on emerging infectious diseases and has particular interest for public health officials and international travelers.
HealthMap is funded by Google.org.
The application can be downloaded for free in the iTunes Store.

When three of us in the office got the flu, I thought it could be fun to track it. It's not. H1N1 seems everywhere in my area. The mapping feature is somewhat difficult to use, and I wish I could more easily see a list of stories in my immediate area. Overall, this is a particularly scary app. I didn't enable the alerts, on purpose I think. Wash your hands, people. @MARIA

People must gingerliness with their health. A life expectancy calculator is a nice idea, but frankly the idea is a bit silly. It doesn't take accidents into account, or infections, or genetically acquired conditions – and some of the life expectancy calculator sites basically tell you that next Friday you'll be killed in the zombie Apocalypse. However, a new one, the Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator, is more of a questionnaire about your healthy habits, like exercise and nutrition. If you think about it, the turn of random events more or less dictates that you can't rely on it. @ERIKA
