Foursquare Says We Aren't A Place To Socialize
Foursquare announced a new business section to allow businesses to place specials on their Foursquare venue pages and print decals to be placed on their doors or windows.
Last week I was able to get a special on my venue, RustyBrick on Foursquare. But as of yesterday, my special was taken away. I received an email from "team foursquare" with the explanation:
Hey there!
While we're working the kinks out of our system, we're trying to limit foursquare specials to places where people meet, socialize and linger. Think: cafes, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, museums, theaters, etc. But stay tuned! We'll be expanding the system soon, and you'll be one of the first to know when we're ready for all types of business! :)
We've tried to make this process as simple as possible but are always looking to improve it, so please send any questions or suggestions to bizhelp@foursquare.com.

Yea, it makes sense - but RustyBrick can be a very fun and social place. Don't believe me, just read our stories on our RustyBrick blog.

This is changing since Foursquare has finally underestimated the local business opportunity. The Foursquare team has just releases the following statement: "@foursquare: We totally underestimated how many local businesses would be signing up for foursquare specials! If you signed up, thx for your patience!"

I've been using foursquare for a little while, do you think that they will add an 'auto-check-in' feature, i.e. if your GPS detects that you're in a place for more than say 30 seconds it checks you in to the closest venue?
