Discus Awards

This site offers $2,000 scholarships to high-school students. Nomination is more like setting up a social networking profile versus a college enrollment form.

Discus Awards changes the way college scholarships and high school awards work. Discus makes scholarships social and more 'web 2.0' by allowing you to submit more than just paper, you can submit videos, images and other multimedia - and be judged based on that. In a way, Discus takes the boredom out of the scholarship submission process and makes it fun and exciting.

The three step nomination process is clear, easy to use and enjoyable. High School students can nominate themselves, and parents, teachers, counselors and students can nominate a student they know. You select the areas where you think you excel in by dragging the categories to the applicable boxes. Then you describe in words, pictures, videos and so on why you rock at those areas. Then build a short profile about yourself, similar to how you would on Facebook and sit back and relax.

If you win a Discus Award, you are eligible for a $2,000 scholarship, one of which will be awarded every month of the school year starting January 10, 2010. Winners also get their picture and profile on the Discus winners gallery.
