Travel and looking for a kosher restaurant to eat at but want to find the restaurant that is nearby? Now you can, with this Kosher app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The Kosher iPhone application will look up the nearest kosher place to eat from your current location, using the iPhone's GPS features. If you do not have GPS or localization on, you can type in a location or a name and we will show you kosher restaurants in that location. In addition, we added a kosher symbols database so that you can quickly look up what kosher symbols are backed by which organizations or Rabbi. Finally, you also have the food blessings and prayers at your finger tips for Ashkenaz, Sefard, Edot Mizrach and Chabad.
Also, you can add new kosher restaurants to the database and modify exisiting restaurants. In addition, you can review restaurants and interact with the data on a more "social" level. The Kosher database is provided by Shamash.org.
Hope you enjoy, and we will love to hear your feedback!

I don't understand why restaurants use so many different signs for Kosher. Can't they just agree to use one no matter where the restaurant is situated in? But this post is about the applications so I wanted to know if it's possible to link it to a database so that the client knows when the restaurant supplies were brought in. This way I'd know if the vegetables, for instance, are today fresh or defrosted- a week ago fresh.

Yes, it does. You can see or preview the whole database at shamash.org if you are unsure.

It downloads a data update on each open, if there is internet. You can turn data off and it will continue to work...

Is the whole database in the program or does it query through the net? I need to know since data roaming charges are extremely high when abroad. Thanks! Love all your apps so far!!!
