AT&T 3G MicroCell Installed

AT&T 3G MicrocellToday is a special day at RustyBrick. We now have an AT&T 3G MicroCell installed at the office. That means that we all have 5 bars now, well - Verizon Wireless users always had five bars, but now all RB iPhone users have five bars now.

Yes, we had to pay the $150 for the device, but consider is a company perk. I do agree that AT&T should give this to all their customers for free, but I will not wait for AT&T to wake up and do that. So I paid the $150 for the office.

I called the local AT&T store this morning to find out if they have them in stock, since they are now available in this area (as of Monday). They had them in stock, so I ran over there, paid for it and came back here. After 90 minutes of letting the device activate, we all saw the "AT&T" at the top left of the iPhone replaced by "AT&T M-Cell." We all also noticed 5 full bars! So we are now running off this MicroCell. We will test it out over the next 30 days and see if it pays to keep it, but I believe we will keep it.

As soon as the RBers saw five bars, they broke out in loud cheers. I am not kidding.

Here are pictures of the phone with the new AT&T symbol:

Since then, we haven't had any more issues. Since 3 days ago.

Isn't this the best company in the world?

Cancel health insurance, use money to buy us personal M-Cells!

FYI, it also seems to stock that annoying 3G static noise.

At about 4:30pm it died. All our phones say "searching..." I am on with AT&T for now 10+ minutes and they are trying to figure out what is wrong.

After rebooting, we are back. It took about 20 minutes.

Has it been solid since? Any other issues?

It has not been solid since. We have about 8 iPhones here and I think after the 6th iPhone gets on this device (not talking, just in range of the microcell) it sporadically has issues and jumps off the AT&T M-Cell network and onto AT&T network or just goes on "searching..."

Wow, I didn't know anything like this even existed. It's a really cool idea, but it's sad that they offer them in a way...

There was an outage over the weekend. I rebooted the device this morning and it worked. Now it is out again, 6 hours later. I guess I have to reboot it again.

Another outage at 8:40am (EST) on June 1, 2010. Ugh!

I have the same exact problem. sometimes call take forever to connect and disconnect. I have a 3GS and I have the stuttering problem during calls also. Just know your not the only ones. Rebooting it makes no difference, if its gonna go out its gonna go out.. What sucks for me more is I also have ATT-Uverse for a net connection. Its all on their network and it still isnt working.. PS: I do see from the picture that you have yours mounted on top of 2 UPS's. Moving it closer to its own location away from that interference will improve your situation IMO. I have mine mounted on top of my entertainment center, in my living room, all by itself.
