We're The Google Of Our Area

google-places-logoToday I receive my monthly Google Places "Performance Update" email from the Google team and I notice something odd. In the impressions summary, it says my top impressions for the past 30 days is driven from the keyword [google].

Yes, if you search for [google] on Google Maps and restrict the search to nearby Suffern, New York, up comes our Google Place result. Really, here is a screen capture:

Google of Suffern, New York

But why? Here is a screen shot of the impressions chart in my performance update email from Google:

Google Places Impressions

In fact, we have received tremendous numbers of impressions for the past several months for the term Google. It shows you how closely I look at these reports. One month, we have almost 3,000 impressions for that term alone. The psychology behind people Googling for the term Google is fairly known. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people search for Google to get to the Google home page. Yes, a bit like searching for [recursion] on Google.

Clearly, you can see Google referencing the text "is a Web based Google" from our web site. It comes from this old press release, heck the product is no longer active. But it is getting us tons of impressions, obviously not many "actions."

So what is the answer? Why is RustyBrick showing for Google in this area? Only possible rational reason is RustyBrick is the Google of Suffern.

I gotta say, with the level of high tech innovation going on here behind the scenes, you'd think we WERE Google!

I didn't get it when I googled. ;( But I do agree about the designation!

I think that's Google's version of being a mayor on Foursquare :)

I like the ring that has to it. Onward, Google of Suffern!

It's also a question of whether or not that was intentional, or if it helps with your visibility at all.

Yes, because yuu are providing services related to Google or from Google like SEO, Google Adwords, Doubleclick ad placement or even adsense monetization and Google has no presence in that narrow locality map in which you are seeing this.

Actually, we don't provide those services.
