This morning, several of us at RustyBrick arrived at the Apple Store at Tices Corner to pick up our pre-ordered iPhone 4 devices. I arrived at 2am, whereas most of us arrived at 4am and Matt is still waiting on the line.
I was a bit concerned that Apple didn't get my pre-order, as I documented here, but they did remember us and grant us our reserved iPhones. They did turn away a few people, as far as I know, from the pre-order line - due to the issue but we got ours.
5 of 6 of us were the first to be allowed into the store. Ronnie was the second person to walk out of the store, although he was number 11 on the line. Overall, the experience, least for us in the first batch was smooth and calm.

6 AM, Mabe on bench reading, is not phased by the Apple Store manager (guy in black talking to #2) not allowing someone who pre-ordered to get her iPhone. This is the pre-order line, that is now about 100 people long:
