Kill GSM Buzz With AT&T 3G MicroCell
Anyone who uses GSM based phones, namely iPhone's, have been plagued by "GSM Buzz" when in an area with poor reception and next to speakers. If you don't know what I am talking about, check the video.
A good day in my office gives me one bar of reception. When the 3G network can't connect it switches to the Edge network. At this time, the GSM Buzz will really shine.
Things like that drive me nuts! I've tried everything. I cut open a monitor cable to take out the ferret beads. Didn't work! I moved my phone to the other side of my desk. Didn't work and I ruined my iPhone cable. I even tried a trick to put the phone into an anti-static bag. No go! I was just about to try a tinfoil trick but gave into the noise, until today.
We installed our own 3G MicroCell Tower from AT&T today. Aside from giving everyone in the office 5 bars, it had some pleasant side effects:
- No more GSM Buzz. We have a perfect connection so the radio is not switching to Edge and not interfering with our speakers.
- Alex used to have horrible voice quality. He now gets his message across.
- Now that we have 5 bars, we are all bummed that no one is calling us. That's the life of a geek.
- Oh, and Wesley's jailbroken iPhone also works!
Please let me know if anyone else can confirm this.
