Twitter Sold Me A Car

I have always been a fan of Twitter, but I would never have imagines I would have bought a car using Twitter. Yes, three years after joining Twitter it led to me buying a car, well - leasing a new car. How can I lease a car via Twitter?

This morning, the Lexus dealership I ordered my two previous cars with tweeted a deal that caught my eye:

Payment Waiver Sales Event! LFS customers, waive up to six of your lease payments. http://tinyurl.com/ybxzz2nless than a minute ago via web

My current lease technically has 6 payments left, so I went over to their web site and clicked on the Live Chat button to make sure this was the real deal. I ended up talking with a guy name Steve who leased me my new car within 3 hours from the time I clicked on the URL in the tweet.

Technically, I was told I was their first sale via Twitter. What did that get me? Probably nothing - but at least I can go on record as saying I bought my car via Twitter.

The car should be here Monday and maybe I'll write about the car itself on my personal blog.

Update: On Thursday, May 13th, about two days since I picked up my new car, the dealership tweeted a thank you:

@rustybrick Mr. Schwartz, thanks for being our 1st Twitter sale! We appreciate your business & hope you enjoy your Lexus.less than a minute ago via web

I sincerely say you come up with some superb points and I will submit a number of thoughts to add to briefly.

So you're their first Twitter customer! That's so cool! Heeh, that's the additional benefit of using Twitter! And it's good that they tweeted a message back to you. That probably made you use twitter non-stop. LOL!

Wow, well, that's a pretty cool way of using twitter. You also got to be the first buyer there as well, so that's kinda like a nice bonus to things, in a way. Going online to find yourself a car seems like a nice idea, since you get an easier access to info nowadays.

Very cool. Hopefully you got the upgraded sound system with some good tweeters. (Sorry... couldn't resist.)

Rusty, Last March I was the first one to buy a car through CarMax. Tweeted I was going to out to look at a car and CarMax Chris pointed out one that was cheaper, less miles, and in much better shape. A win win.
