My Original iPhone - Before 3rd Party Apps

Published December 12, 2017

I was one of the few crazy people to buy the original iPhone back in 2007.  This iPhone did not allow third party apps on them but we all knew that third party apps were coming.

What do I mean by third-party apps?  The only apps that were allowed on the phone were those made by Apple or special partners that Apple, by default, placed on the phone, such as the Yahoo Weather app and Google's YouTube app.  Other than that, there were no other third party apps and there was no App Store!

This phone convinced me we can build the ultimate Jewish prayer book a smart siddur for iPhone and we did when Apple introduced the iPhone 3G in late 2008.  If I did not have this original iPhone, I doubt we would have built any of these Jewish apps

Since then, I have personally owned every single iPhone model Apple has come out with, with the exception of the iPhone 8 and plus models.  You can see a list of all of Apple's iPhone models over here.  They even post clean photo shots of each model, so the one below Apple posted of the original iPhone looks way better than the worn one I have on my desk now.

The original iPhone feels both tiny and awkward in my hand now.  It is almost the size of a business card, being 4.5 inches high, 2.4 inches wide,  0.46 inch deep and weighing 4.8 ounces. This is in comparison to the iPhone X which is what I have now and is 5.65 inches high, 2.79 inches wide,  0.30 inch deep and weighing 6.14 ounces.  Amazing how far these devices have come in so many ways.  Just check out the list on Apple's site.
