I Get It, You're Angry About Your Google Issues But Don't Take It Out On Me

Published February 22, 2018

I get it, trust me, I do.

You are angry that you are not ranking well in Google or that Google sent you a manual action downgrading your rankings, or maybe someone hacked your site, maybe Google Search Console sent you a indexing or AMP or schema issue. I get it, you are angry at Google because it isn't like you can pick up a phone and call Google.  So instead you call someone who writes a lot about it and you end up calling me.

I get it, you are upset.  I understand. I do.

But don't take out your frustration and anger on me.

I am not Google, RustyBrick is not Google, Barry Schwartz does not work for Google.  So don't blame me for your Google issues.

I receive countless emails every week from people who are angry about their Google ranking or indexing situation.  And on average, I get one phone call a week from a complete stranger asking me to help them with it, for free.  That is fine, I don't mind the calls too much.  But it is the calls that start off with serious anger issues, serious attitude, deflecting their anger at me, because I am the person who picked up the phone about their Google issue.

I know I write a lot about SEO and Google organic topics at the Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Land.  But just because I write about it doesn't mean I am a Google SEO helpdesk.  RustyBrick, nor I, offer typical SEO services.  I might consult for your SEO department and give them a wider view on the topic but we do not offer SEO service. I write about it, I try to help SEOs do their SEO through my writing.

Being nice is helpful but hiring an SEO consultant is likely going to be the most helpful outcome.  If you don't want to pay someone, that is fine, use the Google Webmaster Forums, someone there can maybe help you for free.  But to call me, yell at me, that isn't going to work.
