Sunbeam Water Cooler Sprung a Leak

Published March 10, 2004

p826025reg.jpgToday our Sunbeam water cooler sprung a leak.

I have water all over that room and its a big mess.

I am calling a dozen 800#s to get it replaced and clean up the mess, I am still on hold now. So I thought I blog about it.

I purchased it at Kmart.com.

Ok Sunbeam is sending a new casket for it, hopefully that will fix it. Now I need to clean up the mess.

Update: Please visit the post named Sunbeam to Refund Money.

I have ordered replacement parts nozzles for my Sunbeam cooler in December 2004. It is now April 2005 and I have not received them. I am going crazy w/o being able to use the hot water tap on my cooler. Any suggestion where I can order a red nozzle for the hot water? thanks

I have the same model as the one listed above this website. Sometimes, my knob for the cold water doesn't release any water. It happens very often. I'm getting frustrated with it. Can I do anything about this? I just got the cooler in February 2005.

i had the leakage also with this Sunbeam water cooler. called and sent me a new casket. something i did notice the the old casket is warped. i'm assuming that it warps due to the heat. i think Sunbeam haven't fixed the problem because i notice, on this new casket, it's starting to shape or warp. but currently so far so good no leakage...

I'm happy to say that I finally received my nozzle and it is working perfectly. I ordered it from a company called Elite. I can find the phone number if someone needs it. But it did take 4 months, they were out of stock when I called to order.

Hello All... I purchased one of these beauties as well. I bought it at a garage sale so I, obviously, decided to clean it all out. I also have noticed the warped "casket". I've not put a water jug on it yet. Will this warping cause the cooler to leak? Any info would be appreciated.... Thanks!

We have a broken dispenser lever, so we ordered a replacement part from the "877" number listed in the manual. It's been over a month, Sunbeam has charged our credit card, and we have not seen our new parts. It is also like pulling teeth to get someone on the customer service line. And good luck trying to find anything on their website. That's IF you can get anything to function on it, and only if you're lucky enough to actually get it loaded. We want our parts!!!

The Sunbeam Water Coolers are not manufactured by Sunbeam, but rather by Elite Classics. Their phone number is 800 890-4076. Contact them for warranty, parts, etc. Regards.

I too, have a problem with mine. My unit will not give me chilled water after being in service for a year. i will be contacting them about this matter, but I do have a concern: I have registered with them by sending the registration, but the warranty card states, at the top with big letters "limited 2 year warranty", but just below it in smaller letters, it states ...."1 year warranty...... What gives? I'll let you know what happens. Regards.

I purchased a heater/ water cooler for my cabin in the north last Fall and missed the small drain at the back of the unit. Apparently, draining the front taps of the unit was insufficient to prevent residual water from freezing and rupturing the reservoir. Everything else is intact and works well; however, without a good reservoir, the unit is useless. How do I go about getting a replacement reservoir for this unit?

Apparently Sunbeam's biggest fault in this WATERCOOLER FIASCO is allowing someone else to use their Registered Trademark Name, (Sunbeam) These Water coolers are NOT Sunbeam's. Star Elite / Chantel Corporation - or who ever they are - have the licensing rights to use the name. Bad PR for Sunbeam products. DO NOT CALL the local Sunbeam rep. they can't help you. Call 1-877-383-6399, they are responsible for these pieces of JUNK.

There is a piece you can get to go on top of the bottles to keep it from leaking all over the place when you replace bottles. I got the piece from the company I buy my water from here in Florida (Zephyrhills Water). My delivery driver gave it to me, but I'm sure you can buy them, and they can't be more than a couple dollars. It snaps over the top of the bottle, and there is a slot with a floating ball inside. When the bottle is upside down the pressure from the water forces the ball to the top of the bottle neck, which stops all but a trickle of water from coming out. Then when the bottle is installed, the "plastic prong" that sticks up inside the water cooler pushes the ball down, allowing the water to flow again. One other option, I know some companies (down here there is one called "Water Boy") which actually sell the bottles that have a very thin liner over the top that will actually puncture when the new bottle is put into place on top of the cooler. I used to work at an office that got water from that company and I really liked the set up. I don't know if that company is still around, or what other companies may have this feature on their bottles, but it sure was nice. My hot water nozzle broke over a year ago and we use pliers to use it. I am going to call the number and see if I can get a new one. Also, my room temp (middle) nozzle started to leak real bad about 6 months ago, so a I bought a little rubber cap at home depot (something like you might put on the bottom of a chair leg to protect the floor) and put it on the end of the nozzle to stop the leak. It stopped the leak, but now I have no room temp water.

I bought my sunbeam cooler just little over a year ago from Menards. Well, I couldn't use my hot water and regular temp. water just a few month after I bought it. It never gave out water,it just drips alittle. I should have taken back to the Menards, but cold water worked, so I didn't bother to take it back or called services. Now my cold water stop working... again, just drip little at a time. Anyone have idea how to make it work? I know calling service wouldn't help since it is over my warranty period. I just want to take care of it myself if I can. Thanks,

I have found a way to keep water from spilling everywhere when putting a jug onto this. I take a small piece of saran wrap and place it over the mouth. I use a rubber band to hold the wrap on (around the neck) poke a small hole in the saran wrap with the tip of a knife. the peg that sticks up will widen this small hole so the water flows. you still have to be careful when you tip the water jug, as the water will come out the hole in a trickle, but it has worked pretty well for me. I'm another one that's sprung a leak. been trying to find info on sunbeam's web site but failed, just like all of you. i'll try the 877 number listed above. thanks

Has anyone had any luck with the 877 number from the back of the product manual? I've been trying to get a red (hot) replacement tap for MONTHS! I am so tired of sticking the edge of my coffee spoon underneath what little remains of the red tap...trying to pry it up enough for the cup to fill in less than a half hour....trying also to balance my cup because the drip tray that you'd normaly sit the cup on won't stay on the darn thing....ARRRGGGGGG ! I'll bet if I were to threaten to sue the company because my hand got SEVERELY BURNED when the cup became unbalanced......THEN...I'd get my replacement tap!

We have a Sunbeam water cooler as well, it had the problem of the water trickling out. We took off all the knobs (unscrewed them) and blew into the spouts, through the top, it got the water going. The problem was an air lock in the piece of pipe that goes to the nozzle. Also we poured water through the open nozzle and plugged the ones that were working. I know these instructions aren't the greatest but if you can get rid of the air lock, the water comes out good. My problem is we have a Sunbeam water tank on the unit that has filters, so we just add water, but i can't find any replacement filters. We have also taken apart the system and cleaned it,( for the bad taste of the cold water), there was build up in the water reserve in the unit itself.

I forgot to mention that a friend of mine has this cooler too and when their hot water tap broke, the switched it with the room temerature tap, the only problem with that is there is no safety for the hot water, so be very careful if you want to try it.

I finally made contact with Elite Classics and here is the final resolution. For the first year, you return the cooler to the place of purchase and supposedly a repair will take place. In the second year, Elite Classics will prorate the worth of your cooler and settle with you with cash back. As it turned out, my unit was worth only 20 dollars and that was offered to me. For me, 20 dollars is not worth messing with, so I just blew it off. My unit went to trash and I am looking for a different brand, hopefully that is better.

posted by Jason on: Aug 20, 2005 09:01am

To Sabrina or anyone who uses this cooler with the Sunbeam filter 'jug'. How do you keep the water leaking out from the top(there isn't anything creating a seal between the unit and the jub)? We just bought this unit and only one of the taps work and can't figure out how to use the filtration jug without it leaking. I think we'll take it back and replace it with the slightly more expensive Pur cooler. I'd still like to know because a friend has this unit and can't figure out how to use the filtration jug either. Anyone who knows how to use this jug, please email me.

These coolers are LOUSY. Bought mine in March 2003. If I'd known what I know now, I would've bought the GE model that was also at the store. The coolers are imported from China by L'Image Home Products of Montreal. I had the broken hot water temp lever, too, but since I don't have any kids to worry about scalding, I replaced it with the gray room temp handle and painted it red. To be fair, they did send out the new handle promptly. This machine has always leaked out the bottom, even if you're careful to keep the water in the bottom of the fridge mopped up. Now, the hot water has failed and when I called them, they say there are NO internal parts available, I'm on my own The trick to getting the water bottle on with spillage is to take a small steak knife and slice and "X" in the plastic cap. The thing in the neck of the cooler is nowhere sharp enough to puncture the cap on it's own. I just wrote a letter of disppointmnet to the President of Sunbeam, and copied it to L'Image Home Products. Here it is. ATTN: Martin Franklin I have to say how disappointed I am that you have allowed one of your licensees (L'Image Home Products of Montreal, Canada) to besmirch your good name by not providing service for a product they imported using your name. In March 2003 I purchased a water cooler from a local store that came from them. Now, only 2 years and 5 months after purchase, they tell me they have NO internal parts available to repair the hot water side, only external parts. That's ridiculous to have parts unavailable for a product so relatively new. When I was shopping for a cooler, there was a GE model there, I guess I should have gone with them. Of course, the warranty expred in March, but let's say it had happened before then? How would they have fixed it if they have no parts? If this were a $20 blender, that's one thing but this is a $150 unit! And now one of its 3 functions is useless. It also has always leaked out the bottom, even if the defrost water was mopped up frm the inside.

Sam, I have the same cooler you have with the same problem. I just got off the line with Elite Group and have ordered 3 of them. They are only $13 for 3 of them but they did say it will take 4-6 weeks to receive them. They seemed very cooperative so I hope everything comes okay. The number I called was 1-800-890-4076. I was on hold for about 10 minutes (so you have to be a little patient) but so far everything seemed legit. Just have to wait a long time for them to arrive. I ordered extras so I wouldn't have to go thru this all over again in the near future. Plus the cost was so minimal. They gave me a confirmation number and I did get the name of the person I spoke to in case something goes wrong and I have to call them back. I have to also exercise a lot of trust on this one. Good luck!

It's pretty funny that everyone with this cooler is experiencing the SAME problems! If you're looking to purchase a new water cooler, DO NOT BUY THE SUNBEAM. The hot water function on my Sunbeam water cooler stopped working. So I called the toll free number for service advice. The operator told me since the cooler is more than 2 years old it is not in warranty. So she istructed me to unplug the unit for 20 minutes and turn off all of the switches on the back and turn the temperature thermostats to off. Plug the unit back on after 20 minutes and slowly turn the thermostats back to the colder positions and then see if the hot water units begins working again. What a surprise, the hot water heater did not come on. I guess she could have told me to stand on one foot, hop and shake a chicken feather over it for the same result, but what she told me to do sounded just slightly more believable. She also said that my options are to call a service man to come out to determine the problem and decide as to whether it would be worthwhile to repair the unit or get a new one. This cooler is a piece of junk

That would be the whole 6 weeks. Hope it gets here then! Nolita 12/6/05 (original post) I, too, had a problen with the hot water tap breaking. Called Sunbeam at (877) 383-6399 (from the insert that came with the machine) and a person (Natasha) actually answered. She took an order on my visa card for $7.00 and said they have to tell you 4-6 weeks, but it could be a week or a little more through US mail. Well, I now see that I am among many when I say that I received a Sunbeam water cooler last December and that my hot water knob broke and I cannot find one in town to replace it. I just took the knob to the room temperature water and placed it on the hot water because this is what I use the most. This is totally rediculous that so many people have purchased this product and cannot seem to find a replacement for this product. They should definitely have done a recall and given everybody a new knob, because apparently the way they have made this, it does not work well at all. Of course, this is my opinion only.

I'm not sure which email made them call, but I sent an email to Jardencs last night and received a call this morning. The head of the customer service department, Yu Chenna, called me and explained that they are having problems with the manufacturer of the part. He said they received some parts in but they were defective. He offered a refund and when the part comes in they will ship it to me. Yu Chenna (1-866-769-4145 ext 217), not sure about the speelling of his name. BOTTOM LINE: 4-5 months later, still no part and still no usable cooler. The rep said white lasts much longer due to the lack of the safety catch. I think I'll put red on and see how it goes, and next time it breaks I'll put on white, painted red. The experience was not too bad, but I wish they were free, since it is a known problem.

The manual is useless. I do not see how you can mount the bottle and where the bottom of the bottle can pierce on anything. There is a flat disc that you turn counter clockwise. Can someone help? The first cooler we bought would not produce cold water so we took it back to exchange it. Why didn't we realize then that we were buying a lemon? The water still barely gets cold and now we have a broken hot water handle. The first time we called the 877 # we waited on hold for literally hours and never did get through to anyone, when we called back and finally got through we were told the handles were on back order and they should be in around Jan 2, and to call back then to order. What kind of service is that?

For those of you having difficulty loading water bottles on this cooler: You need to have a cap on the end of your bottle that contains a smaller inverted post with a smaller cap on it. I got several off of empty 5 gallon water bottles at work. Simply put this on the end of the bottle after filling it, or make sure it is on any new bottle, and place the smaller inverted opening on the post. The weight of the filled bottle will forced the small cap on the inverted post off and the bottle will fall in place with no spilling. The small cap should stay on the top of the post and will snap back onto the inverted post when you pull the bottle off.

To all of you who say that they have a bad taste in the water. Please check it out. We did and the section or funnel that holds the bottle upright can be twisted off and it is a bit of a hassle to do. Needless to say we did it and to our suprise we found mold growing there. So the one person who said that the water smelled like a musty basement may have the same problem. I am so mad cause this is the second one that we purchased. Our first one just died on us. I am worried that the mold or spores from the mold can cause us to be sick. Ours has a small fridge at the bottom and it is nothing but a pain in the neck. This may be the cause or culprit for the mildew in between the sections. I was curious if the other people complaining of a bad odor in their water had a frig at the bottom too. Please let me know . Also does anyone know if you can disable the frig and use it as storage instead. can't seem to find out how to do this. Thanks

The little fridge works fine too. After waiting for customer service for over 20 minutes, they told me to restart the machine after unplugging it for one hour. I tried that but of course it didn't work. I asked the girl what to do in that case and she told me the units can't be repaired! I find that hard to believe. Wish I knew an electrician! The manual (which I still have) even gives the specs! Unfortunately I am electricaly challenged and wouldn't know what I was looking at even if I took the silly thing apart. those of us who have experienced the marval of technology provided us in the sunbeam water cooler should know these simple facts; due to the factory set temp on the hot water the ring or casket is doomed to warp and couse leakage. solution; replace and turn down the hot water thermostat. also; due to the factory set cold water temp a freeze-up consisting of a round block of ice forming inside of the cooling basin blocks the flow of cold water. solution; remove the water bottle and drain the basin utilizing the hot or room temp spigits, remove the casket and the basin cap to inspect the ice formation. here I usually pour hot water into the basin aiming around the outter walls of the basin to free-up the ice from the metal basin enough to remove the large donut shaped ice cube. be sure and turn off the cooling unit in the back to stop new formations due to re-freezing the water as you thaw it.. turn the temp down and the problem should be recitified.

I would have taken it back to Zellers but their over 3 miles from here.A metal insert was made at a shop here and all went well for a 1 and a half. Now the cold water tape has broken. I have drilled it and inserted a brass pin, which fixed it for now. Not able to locate anouther for this cooler. Works good. Never used the hotwater option, so all is well there.

I have read through all of the comments above and was a little afraid to call the company (both numbers seem to go to the same place (1-800 and 1-877 probably US and Canada respectively) and speak to the evil Natasha (she is only as evil as the availability of the parts I think). My problem was a broken hot water tap handle. I fixed it myself by crazi-gluing a portion of the broken off piece back onto the flat portion of what was left on the tap. I cut off the safety lever and though I have young kids (3 and 6) I will tell them not to touch it. If that fails I was thinking of rigging (more glue) a popsicle stick to the top of it. I think that will work too. Vice grips and pliers should also work but I need those in the workshop occasionally. I tried ordering a new tap from Nicholas when I called the number but said they were out of stock (right now) and would not take my order till they received some stock. It sounds like they are learning from blogs like this. A good sign!! I told him to go read this blog so he understands people's issues and has a good answer for all of them. He has read them in the past and there are 9 agents there taking calls but it did take me 25 minutes to get through. I am a call center manager and he reminded me of the call peak times in all help desks. Monday is the busiest (people reading this blog I expect on weekends. Mornings are busier than afternoons and Wednesday and Thursday are slowest and you might not wait at all!! I asked about the warping issue where the bottles sit and he said it might not be good to have the heater on all the time. I did not like the thought of electricity being used all the time so I stuck a timer on so it is off for 12 hours a day. He thought that was a good idea. Mold should not occur if the device is in a kitchen type environment. If it is in a garage or anywhere where bacteria/dust/dirt might get into the unit easily. To rectify you flush vinegar through the unit and CLR if vinegar does not work. I have not experienced this yet. He told me how to take the taps off (twist off the top portion when the unit is empty of water) and then sent me a manual (instantly) at my request (1MB). I inherited the device from my Quebec based Grandfather. I live in Ontario and love a device that combines several things into one. I marvel that it can do hot/cold/warm water and refrigerate my drinks all in one place. Maybe the president will read my blog and send me a free tap (white or red). It seems all the other bloggers though displeased with the break consider it important enough to try and fix it after 2 or 3 years into its lifespan. That status should be reserved for a stove or fridge which might last 10 years but only heats or cools but not both. A clever company might save the cost of all the calls (typically $10-$20 a call) and set up a website to send replacements for $2 or $3 and get design changes into production to stop putting JUNK into the market and ruining their name. Plain water has become a health conscious movement that has no end in sight. We use the device 10 times a day for hot drinks and the same for cool drinks and an occasional pop. I hate waiting for a kettle to boil.

The hot water unit was staying on, and overheating the top of the water cooler. When my (blue) cold water knob gave out, I swapped it with the (white) ambient temp. knob. That should hold me till I get a part ordered. I think I'll order two spares. Here is how you prevent water from spilling when you change out the 5 gallon bottles. Place a 4 inch square of tin foil over the mouth and use a rubber band to secure it TIGHTLY. The water won't spill out, and the foil will get punctured when put into the unit. TTFN

Well, I didn't get to speak to Natasha but I did speak to a young man, after about a 45 minute wait, who tried to be helpful but apparently the replacement knobs are still, if you can beleive it, on backorder. I have solved my broken tap problem, temporarily, at least, by going to a local water store, called the Water Drop...I think it's a franchise. They sell filtered water, as well as several lines of water coolers. I asked if they handled Sunbeam and they did not. I asked if they had any replacement handles or spiggots and they showed me a box of surplus ones and I picked out a white one that would be described as "female" and it fit perfectly and works fine. There is no safety on it and it's not red but if it will solve the problem, maybe people should look for it. It sounds better than waiting forever for the backorder to arrive and then paying for something that should be replaced for free anyway.

to get rid of the bad smelly taste of the bottled water, you must clean your system periodically. Aprx once a month. More if you use it contantly. here is a link that will tell you how to sanitize your system. http://www.bnl.gov/bnlweb/pubaf/water/FS2_coolproced.pdf i have checked other sites as well and they are all about the same. basically 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. fill your system with it and let it sit 5 minutes then flush 4 times after with clean water. you should also use the same "bleach solution" in your bottles if you are reusing them and refilling them your self. i had nasty tasting water and did this and now it is perfect. my system is the ylr2587h3.

I bought my original Sunbeam water cooler 4 years ago and have just recently replaced it two months ago with their newer stainless steel model. The only problems I have ever had with these products are the taps, and that's because my family broke them. The taps don't break by themselves - people break them. When I called the 1-877# for replacement, they told me that they were on back order and if I cared to I could call back in a month or so to see if they have received the parts from China. I don't like having to wait for this product but its not the customer service agents' fault if they don't get parts from China on a regular basis.

I. SYMPTOM: I presently have a Sunbeam water cooler with the hot water tap option. I have had the unit for over two years and the hot water feature quit working. The hot water tap now only dispenses room temperature water. II. FAILURE: I noticed the manual has a wiring diagram which is slightly inaccurate, but close enough for trouble shooting. I found one of the two thermostat devices had failed (KSD301). Since the schmatic was slightly inaccurate I was unable to determine if the failed conponetnt was the low range 85 Degree C. or high range 95 Degree C thermostat. III. RESOLUTION: 1) I tried the web for the failed componet number KSD301. I got hits on the components manufacturers, and quite a bit information on the component itself. However, based on the manufacture info, the compnent is produced to the end users specifications for temperature. I was unable to find distributers for the component with off the shelve specs/values. 2) I also tried the Sunbeam service number 1-877-383-6399 number which is a company called Elite Classic based out of Canada. I was told they don't sell internal parts. This company is also the company that designs and produces the water coolers. 3) Basically it appears there is no resolution from Sunbeam for an out of warrenty internal failure. I guess this appliance is considered disposable, I'll keep looking though.

Water Leak. I had a bottle of water leak all over the floor once. These work off a vacumm to keep the water in the bottle. You pull the lever, this lets water out and air in. Works great unless you have a hole in the water bottle like I did. It was a pin hole. It did not leak sitting on the floor but it would not hold a vacumm and nature took over. By nature, water flows to the lowest point. i.e. the floor. So check your bottle for leaks.

I've had my unit for about 2 years and it worked fine until December 2005. The hot water handle broke and shortly after, the cold water side started leaking all over the place. I placed an order with Elite Group Inc. in Montreal Canada for the replacement valves on Dec. 27. I was told it would take 13 weeks (CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!!) to be delivered. We are on week 11 - we'll see if it shows up. I think it's interesting that the charge went through on my credit card immediately!!!! Other than this, we have had very good luck with this unit. Very hot and cold water. No bad smells. Just CHEAP HANDLES!!!!

Does anyone know where you can buy the two pack replacement filters for the Sunbeam Water Dispenser? We have one in our office (as above with hot, cold & room temp). It is about 2 1/2 years old. None of our local stores carry the filters anymore & so far I haven't been able to locate any online. Thanks in advance for your help.

We have the Sunbeam YLR2-5-90CH3 and it leaked a third of the bottle all over the kitchen floor. We don't use the hot water tap so ours never had a problem with that. We've had it since September 2003 and apparently the warranty on it is 2 years so no more warranty for us. After reading the posts on here, I am convinced that it's not worth my time to get this Sunbeam repaired. The 1-877-383-6399 person couldn't even tell me where to get this repaired other than to take it in to wherever they fix fridges. I was on hold for about half an hour. Well, I looked in the Yellow Pages and most places will only do in-calls it seems. I had followed the 1-877-383-6399 person's suggestion of: 1. Unplug 2. Let sit for an hour 3. Drain water But it started leaking again within the hour.

If you check the Sunbeam J1000 Water filtration system containers the boxes they are in have Sunbeam in large 2 inch bold letters white over wide red band on 3 sides and top of box with Sunbeam water filtration system on 4th side . On the very bottom of the box in small print this is the only place where you will find the words. Elite Classic Now you know why they are hiding their name under bottom side the box? This should be enough to tell customers everywhere what name products NOT TO BUY . No filters available in stores where containers purchased what kind of company service for customers is this? gimmick........ When calling Sunbeam they were far from nice with over 45 minutes wait for Elite Classics I hung up. Marylou

Does Class action lawsuit sounds fine? Well, although this idea may be too much but for a business like Sunbeam who has a great reputation, they should whenever they let their name be used for a purpose be aware that it does not fall in disrepute such as this. People are obviously being taken for a ride and Sunbeam doesn't even care at all based on all the postings that are in here. How much Sunbeam makes from this, we can just imagine, but it has got to be lots.

Well, I have an update on this post of mine. It turns out that it was the damn bottle that was the problem and not the Sunbeam water cooler! So, to repeat, it was not the Sunbeam that was the problem, it was the damn water bottle. > We have the Sunbeam YLR2-5-90CH3 and it leaked > a third of the bottle all over the kitchen > floor. I've had the cooler less than two months...there I was sitting in the living room watching TV relaxing and next thing I know the water is pouring down the hallway to the front door, running under the kitchen cabinets and into the basement. What a bloody mess! How many people have to suffer with this shitty product before Sunbeam stops the madness and tries to regain their image?! Purchased it at Home Depot...they're getting it back! By the way, I live in Canada and the service from Elite is just as bad!

I purchased a sunbeam water cooler on friday march 31st from home depot and brought it back on sunday april 2nd. the water tasted so bad i didnt know what to do. first we used a 12oz glass to flush it out like the instruction said that was a waste of good water. then i filled a bottle half way and added about 3 oz of vinegar shook it so it would circulate then spent all day draining and refilling the bottle and flushing it with tap water (which isnt so bad anyway), then let it sit and low and behold it was just as bad as when i got it. what a bummer

Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe I have located the manufacturer of the taps used in the Sunbeam water dispenser that is driving everyone bonkers. A friend of mine has sent out an inquiry asking if small quantities are available for purchase, or could they please direct me to a US importer. You should also know that in 2000, Sunbeam went on a major licensing campaign to license outside companies to manufacture products using the Sunbeam name, and as you already know, this strategy has caused some good and some bad experiences consumers who have depended on the Sunbeam name for quality and good customer support after the sale. http://nbjiaji.hisupplier.com/exporter/215/bottled-water-dispenser.html

MOLD WILL MAKE YOU SICK - We don't take any chances. Precautions: 1. Before you tip your 5-gallon jug onto the water cooler, take a couple of minutes to sanitize the top of the water jug by use of some mild soap, a clean-dry rag or paper towel (not the sour dish rag or sponge). 2. Every 60-days perform a thoughrough cleaning. First, empty all the water from Hot, Ambient and Cold taps until you are sure that your machine is empty of water. Purchase two 1-gallon or three (1)-litre bottles of vinegar and pour them into an empty jug. Put the jug onto the water cooler and fill up all 3 reservoirs. Let the Vinegar sit inside the cooler for a couple of hours. Later start cycling the vinegar into some pitchers. Keep pouring the pitchers back into the 5-gallon jug and cycle the vinegar through a few times. It's important to run the vinegar through each reservoir for a while so that you know you have completely flushed out any mold. Also, you will be flushing out calcium deposits as well. Next, using tap water, fill up the empty jug and cycle the tap water through for about two or three 5 gallon jugs worth (using pitchers to capture the water). You get the idea. Good luck. It's called 'maintenance' which is a novel concept for many people who lead busy lives. However, 'maintenance' keeps your machines and your health in good shape. Scott

Warm room temperature water - check. Water wouldn't come out of the taps - check. Sporadic bottle-emptying major leaks - check. Recurring iceberg in refrigerator - check. The only problem we didn't have was the breaking off of the hot water handle. After reading all your comments, feel perfectly justified in trashing this unit. At least we weren't the only ones. Better than thinking our water cooler had it in for us.

I recieved a heater/ water cooler for my cabin in the north last Fall and missed the small drain at the back of the unit. Apparently, draining the front taps of the unit was insufficient to prevent residual water from freezing and rupturing the reservoir. Everything else is intact and works well; however, without a good reservoir, the unit is useless. How do I go about getting a replacement reservoir for this unit? Sounds like it may be impossible to get parts, a service company or any assistance from the comments that I have just reviewed. Any recent success stories. Help

For those who have allowed the Sunbeam water cooler to freeze up without draining, using the small hidden drain in the back. The damage is probably the hot water section or canister which has the top seam broken and or misshapen from ice expansion. Possible solution: disassemble the unit and remove the hot water canister, realign and straiten the top of the canister (a hammer and small block of wood seems to work best); use a two part epoxy type glue or filler (JB Weld works great) and fill and reattach the top of the canister. (Soldering is very difficult due to the stainless steel construction. Reassemble cooler. Extra hint have a long handled philips screw driver to reach the screws which attach the front of cooler.

My knobs broke twice, I thought that my children were breaking it. I purchased serveral knobs to have for extra and so far it hasn't broke again. Two weeks ago I came home to find water all over the place. I thought that it was water that wasted while changing the bottles. I cleaned it up to find that the whole tank has water around it. so I drained it and started over the same day it wasted again. I was currently looking online to find a replacement of the middle part that the water jug fits on and I found this leak message. Thank you, there is no need for me to keep spending money on replacements parts if this is a leak that can't be fixed. Aug. 2006

Seeing that pretty well every couple hundred bolgs I've read have frustrated consumers with no customer support. I will tell you what I decided to do. Our cooler puked a gallon or so all over the laminate floor last night. I took the stupid thing apart to see what happened. Chances are good that your hot water tank has failed and either gushed of slowly dripped the source water into the fridge compartment. The galvaized strapholding the hot water tank and heater elements were completely rusted out! Heres what you do to get your water cooler going without hot water: (yaya I know why compromise...but hey, we hardly ever use that dumb red tap any way, the $60.00 per year you spend on energy on keeping hot water on hand just to use 15 cups for hot chocolate or tea....what a joke ===> use a microwave, just as easy.) Any way, this probaly voids all warranty and such so use at your own risk. Take out the pastic componets on the top of the cooler so you can see the satinless cooling basket. Give it a wipe down, it will neeed it! Unplug the unit from the wall. Take the top 2 anodized screws out from the back holding the top cowel on. Take the cowel offand you will see the water cooling parts. Drain all taps to remove the water from the cooling basket. A drain for the hot water tank is on the rear right side of the appliance IT IS LEFT HAND thread, so turn clockwise to loosen. (I used vise grips and pliers for mine). drain all the water out of the tank and re-install the drain plug. On the top of the cooling basket there is a small hole to supply the leaking hot wter heater. A rubber hose connects the heater to the basket. Pull the hose off from the heater inlet, pull hard there is a zip tie as a hose clamp. Take the hose and squeeze about 2" worth of household grade silocone into it. bend the loose end of the tube over and pinch it off with a zip tie or something. Tape the hose to the side of the basket so it will be above the water level to prevent leaks. Take the black wire off the hot water switch and tape up the wire with lots of electrical tape to prevent fires (important);thus disonnecting the heater elements to disable them. Re install the cowel and two screws, insert the plastic bottle holding thingy and your off to the races. You will at least be able to have cold water and a fridge again. You could now remove the red handle from the hot water tap and sell it on ebay for a mint!LOL

I just contacted the 877 number listed on the back of the cooler, My unit is only one year old, the guy tells me that it is no longer covered under warranty. I asked if there was any good will on the part of the company to replace a defective knob due to a design fault(they all seem to break around the same time)he told me that no such good will exists. If you want a cooler for a short term (one year or less),this cooler is great, if you want it around for more than one year then buy something else.

Well, my cold handle on my Stainless steel cooler broke yesterday. This item is not that old and should by no means have broken with the amount of pressure applied. I just called the 877-383-6399 help line. They said they would ship out a replacement. Given the length of time some of you have waited, I am not holding my breath for a speedy delivery. Sunbeam Rep: if you could monitor Reference number 33-112-967 that would be great

A Better Approach - perhaps? Have been reading comments and empathizing. Bought our cooler about 3yrs ago, with no problems so far. The recent post from the Sunbeam mgr. seems hopeful. Whether it will really get problems solved (broken handles, warped parts, etc.) remains to be seen. In the meantime: 1. On the hot-water handle - breakage and replacement (and the company's lack of prompt response) seems to be the most common issue - I haven't broken ours (yet) but certainly wouldn't replace it with the same defective part. Instead, why not try taking the broken spigot to your local hardware/plumbing supply and simply replace it with a small brass water valve with the same thread/pipe size as the spigot? There are many kinds - and, if your not familiar with this kind of item, your hardware sales person can certainly match it with with a female supply valve that fits. Very small ones are used to hook-up in-line water purifiers and for other water-supply applications - you simply need to match the diameter and thread-size. Some of them have easy quarter-turn handles. It shouldn't cost more than three or four dollars and should last forever. Yes, not the 'factory solution' but why bother with something that's proven to be defective (both at the item level and with the company that should have solved the problem)? 2. Cleaning - Mold and dirt can be serious health risks with respect to watercoolers. Watercoolers have been identified as a major source of disease in FDA/EPA reports. I run a 50-50 bleach solution through the system every 3-months. I also clean the spigots, catch-tray and probe area with undiluted bleach (and don't forget to run a small bottle-brush into the spigot and clean that thoroughly. Rinse by flushing with 3-4 gallons of clean water. If a slight 'bleachy' taste remains it won't hurt you and should disappear in a day or so - or simply flush until clear (an additional five-gallons of tap water should do). 3. Mineral deposits. We avoid this entirely by using water from our RO purifier. That, or distilled water have no minerals and, therefore, no problem with buildup (& the myth about RO/distilled water leaching minerals from your body is just a lot of whooey promoted by people selling "alkaline" water systems.) Anyway, hasn't been a problem. We haven't had any of the other problems like icing-up or split seams, etc. If we do, then (considering the frustration of dealing with repair/replacement) I will certainly dump the machine in favor of one with known reliability and good service/parts reputation. Sunbeam/Elite certainly does not appear to fit that description. Hope this helps someone avoid the frustration and hair-pulling that some of you seem to have experienced. Life should have as few 'Natashas' in it as possible. may your handles stay solid and your water cool, Red

We've been stuck without any cold water at all. You turn on the switch and the light never comes on and now the white AND the blue taps give room temp. water. Sunbeam says the closest repair center is MILES AND MILES away but they don't handle these things, so looks like another dump will have yet another one of these jokes heaped on it... I'm going to try to contact Sunbeam, but am wondering when the handles are going to break or our kitchen is going to flood...maybe it's better to trash it while we're still lucky...?!?! :^(

Hi, We too have bought a Sunbeam water dispenser from Home Depot that is only 5 days old and the water has the worst taste to it even when heated. We tested to find out what it is and after filtering the water through a brita it tastes much better but I'm not going to filter each cup after purchasing a dispenser. So if anyone has an idea please let us know.

Dear Sunbeam Rep: We bought our Sunbeam water purifier from a local store but have been unable to get replacement filters for it. Is there a place in Portland, Oregon to get the filters or some place to order them? Have called several times and were told that we should call back in six weeks and that they could possibly tell us at that time where they were handled but would not guarantee they would have the info. We also have a broken red hot water handle. Thanks Dana

Has anyone been successful at removing the terrible taste? It's a brand new cooler. I've ran gallons of water through it. Also tried filling it with a white vinegar solution and letting it sit over night. After flushing it out the next day, it tasted vaguely like vinegar for a few days, but then the nasty plastic taste came back.

We have the Model YL2-27CH2 got at Home Depot in Aug 2006 for $60 on sale - as for funny taste we just kept using it and it went away - we use a Greenway filter Bottle with it and it is fine (got it at Canadian Tire $40 with filter; replacement filters are $30)just don't overfill the bottle. Our only real complaint is the cold water not quite as cold as we like but called and were told to turn the brass screw counter clockwise to make colder we did got colder still not quite as cold as we like but not too far off. No taps just push button for cold and room temp. Hubby found yucky gunky moldy stuff on spigot this morning - oops gues I should have been cleaning a tad more frequently guess I'm dumping some water out. Other than my lack of cleaning it seems to work fine and I like the push buttons as my 16 month daughter isn't strong enough to push them in.

Go to your local water and ice store and they will sell you a hot water handle for like $1.50-3.00. I have had mine for 4 years and never had a problem. But my grandaughter was messing with it and i needed to replace it. Only because the thing you push down broke. It never leaked so i consider myself lucky. My husband just asked the cashier and wallah it was quick and easy.

We bought one of these infamous Sunbeam Water coolers several years ago from Home Depot. Worked fine for several years..until we moved. The unit must have gotten angry about the move and now produces no cold water. Hot and refrigerator sections work great, and only leaks from the fridge if I forget to sop up the condensation. Have tried all the suggestions listed in the blog to get cold water but to no avail. As we speak, it is sitting in the garage making hot water for tea and taking up space. Soon it will go on the back of my truck for it's final move....to the landfill. Last Sunbeam branded product I willever buy!

So here's the plan.... Go buy another one! Bring it home, unscrew the red tap (easy to remove by hand), screw the old broken one back on (hopefully you kept the broken plastic), bring it back to the store and claim tap broke on the first try - get your money back, screw the new red tap on your old cooler! Hi all, as of last night I decided to track down some parts for my Sunbeam cooler Mod: YLR2-5-90Z3 SA:12587 SN: 20040200375 as I too have a broken hot water valve. I didn't find parts directly but did find this site. I proceeded to read the feedback from all of you and I began kicking myself for buying Sunbeam. Today however I did go to my local water supplier shop and DID find valves. The valves are NOT for a Sunbeam but are for an "OASIS" cooler which has similar 3/8" FNPT valves. The bad news is the valves cost me $52.42 for 1 blue 1 white) and 1 child proof red one. All of the valves are available in child proof also (for more $). I will apply new Teflon tape to the nipple on the machine and install the 3 valves. Everything appears to be the same a far as fit up is concerned but they did warn me that there was NO warranty and they were not liable if the cooler leaks. I don't believe leaking is going to be a problem. My cooler works great otherwise and the little fridge I have to keep turned all the way down as it freezes. If your machine leaks water from the fridge it is letting you know you need to thaw it out (like your mom did before the days of frost-free). It's called maintenance. I don't know what went through the mind of the IDIOT that decided to put left hand thread in the drain at the back. Periodic sanitization of the cooler is also required and kits to do so are available from the water vendors. I just pull the bottle and the plastic pieces out of the reservoir, run a half cup or so of bleach and water through it and flush the crap out of it. The plastic bits go in the dish washer. Hope this helps anyone out. I can be e-mailed at: ve7bul@rac.ca

ANSWER: RETURN TO STORE AND STORE CALLS THIS NUMBER: 1-866-631-2031………..It worked for me and I got my money back!!!! My wife gave me my Sunbeam water dispenser for my birthday in May 2005. We drink tons of water, it was working great, and we loved it. Then, in December 2006 I came home from work with water all over the floor (a full 18L jug). It wasn’t the taps; the tank leaked!!! Called the toll-free number (Prestige Home Comfort licensed to manufacture Sunbeam products in Montreal) and could not get through at all. So, I searched hard on the internet for another non-toll-free number for Prestige Home Comfort and finally found one 514-383-4720. I called it and the lady was very rude and told me to call the other line. So, I tried to get through for a couple of more months calling the other line; with my water dispenser sitting in a large bucket cause sometimes it leaked and sometimes it didn’t. Finally, knowing the 2 year warranty was going to end in May, I called the 514-383-4720 number. Got the same nasty lady (totally remembered her voice and attitude). I asked for her full name but she wouldn’t give it to me. I asked for her supervisor…finally she transferred me to the one in charge. This person was much better. He said he would replace it. Since I didn’t have the receipt (it was a gift), he asked where it was bought – some stores have an understanding with Prestige that the customer can take back the product and Prestige will reimburse, even without the receipt. The store has to call 1-866-631-2031 to confirm. Anyway the store was great (Atlantic Superstore, a division of Loblaws) and I got my money back. The guy at the store said he has seen these machines break a lot!!! I think if you got it at Canadian Tire, I don’t think they have the understanding with Prestige that I mentioned. LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS!!! ALSO, CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST WHAT ONE I SHOULD BUY??? (DEFINITELY NOT SUNBEAM!!!)

I purchased one almost two years ago and it's doing fine, but I have to say I don't use the hot water much. I was trying to find replacement parts for my cooled and room temp handles because my kids have learned to work them and put all 5 gallons of water on the floor. They do not carry any child proof ones except the hot water, and when I went to but them I was told that the only people that carry them were a company called elite classics. Sumbeam does not deal with the water coolers. When I called elite classics they told me the part has been on back order since July and they have no idea when they will come in. And they already have hundereds of orders on wait. So it could be up to a year before I got one if not longer. Does anyone know where I could find parts that fit that aren't mayed by them? I don't care if they're sunbeam parts or not.

Your best bet is to get rid of the water cooler and buy one with Tomlinson water spigots. Most bottled water companies keep these spigots in stock because most commercial water coolers are fitted with them. As for the bad taste, if it is a water cooler with a plastic tank, that will explain the bad taste, most of the time the plasic gives the bad taste. Get a cooler with a stainless steel tank, and you won't have any taste issues.

I have a YLR2-5-90HZ3 that sprung a leak somewhere. Leaked about 2 gallons on my hardwood floor. Looks like I've got an excuse to buy a belt sander. Anyway, I dismantled the whole unit in an attempt to find the leak and discovered that the water supply tubing to the heater tank had rusted through. Since I have other ways to heat water, I cut out the tank and rerouted the drain. This troubleshooting process took about 4 weeks of 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there. Now I've forgotten how the gaskets all fit onto the top of the unit to support the jug! Anyone have a link to that manual or parts list that is mentioned occasionally? Please post. Thanks in advance.

I do not know what the number was, but it worked great. Now my dispenser is leaking and I want to find another. I like not having to get the bottles and just fill it with water. Does anyone have any idea where I might find another or one like it?

I LOVE sunbeam!! Their customer care service was so warm and the wait time was so short, I only waited 30 seconds!! The agents there I was dealing with were very kind and sympathetic, and definately knowlegable. I was able to order my parts at an inexpensive rate and I just can't believe how friendly they were to me and how accomadating they were, especially Joe. I was able to obtin parts for my 5 year old cooler and he answered all my questions in a knowlegable way and I just love this cooler it makes my life so easy and conveniant I could make soup in literally 30 seconds with the hot water feature and my tea is always toasty in the morning and my water is always cold for my drinks! I just love this product so much, it's amazing. I'm going to use the water for the formula I use when I finally give birth!!!

I must say i have been a satisfied customer of sunbeams since 2004's first model. I still have my manual because i KEPT IT AS MOST CUST'S SHOULD. and i also kept my reciept as most people do when they purchase items over 60$. The taps are made of a simple plastic yes, maybe they ciould use improvement just a tad, however, if you properly lift the lever to release the water instead of pulling on it, then maybe your's would stay..As well, just simply turn off the hot water tank to make your water colder, it ends up overboiling and causing the cold water to be warm.. if you need hot water simply turn it on 5 minutes beforehand

I believe I have a leak from my main cold water tank or stainless line from the cold tank going to the hot tank. However my stupid self has not been able to fully disassemble the unit to get to confirm my theory. Can anyone offer a quick walkthrough to disassemble the case properly. I am trying to get the front face off after I removed the handles/valves. There are bottom screws from the inside that I cannot reach to remove the face and I did not want to tear the face off and shear the plastic at the screws as a shortcut to my frustractions. - Thanks in Advance; Sam

I hope you have started to see the benefits of the changes we have made to our customer service and the significantly reduced wait times. Mikey T you should not have been quoted $22.50 for a tap, the agent must have made a mistake, please try calling again. The cost does vary depending on the method of shipment you select but a single tap will cost significantly less than that.

Hello I have a sunbeam ylr2-5-96H2, brought about 3-4 years ago, every now and then it used to spring a leak, but I usually curred that by talking the water bottle off and putting it back on. However recently the water started to taste a bit funny, also if I didn't turn the cooler on, the cold water got very hot! So I decided to investigate, when I took the top of the cooler off I discovered the tank that is used to cool the water was very dirty and rusty around the top (hence the taste). It looks like a Stainless tank so it shouldn't rust. When I looked closer it looks like there is a crack in th top of the tank! Does anybody know if it is possible to get replacement tanks? Guess it could be time for a new cooler? Thanks

I bought 3 red knob (since they broke so easily!) paid in full and waited for over 2 months. When you place the order, they will always tell you the same excuse that it's a special order so it will take 3-4 weeks for them to order them. I called them several times for the status and they finally ended up telling me that they have already shipped it weeks ago but I have never received it! I have had a Sunbeam (YLR2-5-87H3)water cooler for 3 years. My only complaint would be the cheaply designed plastic faucets, especially the goofy red hot side that snaps off with little effort.I swapped out the never used center faucet (white) with the red faucet..problem solved. I would like to see the engineers upgrade the fragile faucets.

The number to call for customer support for any problems to do with water coolers including replacement taps is 1-877-383-6399 this is the number in your manual and will be confirmed by Sunbeam if you have any doubts please confirm the number directly with Sunbeam. In respect of replacement taps if you live in North America you will be offered two choices of shipment, the lower cost has no tracking number so if it is not delivered we cannot do anything, the risk is with you however we do have proof of postage. The second and more expensive option includes tracking and if this is chosen we can assist with any non delivered parts. Goods ordered from Canada have 1 rate of shipping and this does include item tracking. If you are having any problems with our customer service please send an email to complaints@elitegroupinc.ca

What a great way to keep making money off of a poorly designed water cooler, keep selling the same cheap plastic water tap handles that will continue to break. Sunbeam evidently washes their hands of this cooler, of course not with water from their name brand cooler since their handles probably busted too or more likely they wouldn't waste their money on their own cooler. The company blames customers for abusing the handles instead of fixing their poor materials and design problems. I will never by Sunbeam products again, their name is on the cooler so it is their product. Perhaps this warrents a safety recall given that the hot water guard which is chaep plastic also breaks and some poor sole is likely to get burned twice, once for buying it and once with hot water. If people were to report all the guards that break wouldn't that force a recall?

I put mine together and realized that there is a part missing. Could this be why everyone's watercooler is leaking? I noticed something wasn't right when I was rinsing it out after cleaning with vinegar. I looked in the manual and found the part that was missing. This could be a manufacturing error. I am going to take it back to the store and check one of the other coolers. If it is missing the same part, I will let you know.

I finally found a suitable, readily available solution to the broken red hot water handle, after experiencing 2 on my Aquatrend by Culligan (identical to the Sunbeam unit. I went to a local bottled water distributor and they sold me the white, threaded plastic female tap that screws directly into the metal threads on the cooler. The kicker is that the red handle that came with it is now an "Oasis" style, which is an industry standard and readily available.

Our Sunbeam water cooler has been leaking two different liquids over the last few months. One, a thick, sticky, yellowish substance can be found seeping out from underneath the cooler about every month or so (I wonder if this might be drinks kept in the fridge and spilled by the kids, so we are monitoring that!!). The other is water - but I think it stems from the fact that the fridge keeps icing up (even when it is turned off!), then melting and leaking out between the door and the door gasket. Anyone else had these two problems? If you have the manual, make sure you take the cooler/heater apparatus apart every month or two and clean it, as red coloured algae (probably not that harmful, but likely to cause awful taste) builds up on the walls of the aluminum tub inside the cooler. You can buy cleaning kits at Water Depot, or just use a strong solution of baking soda and water. Wear a clean rubber glove when working inside the tub!!!

Well, I bought the cheapo Sunbeam model with no hot water or fridge from Home Depot. As others mentioned here the water tasted like plastic or a hint of some sort of industrial oil. I have flushed it with a few pots of boiling water, dish soap and vinegar. I have hot water sitting in the tank right now hoping that all the chemicals (BPA??) from the plastic will disolve/leach off the plastic into the hot water. At which point I'm going to put some cold water through it to make sure no more chemicals leach off into the water. After reading everything here, regardless of my results, I'm thinking I'm going to get a dispenser with a stainless steel tank. My kids have already destroyed the box, hopefully HD will take it back.

Im sure this is how the knob broke when someone forced it to dispence water when the safty lever wasnt properly lifted, but like I said, it is a pain in the ass to operate and is very stiff and gets hung up all the time. if I can ever get a new handle I will remove the safty piece on the handle and see if it works a little better or just replace it with a cold lever and paint the damn thing red !

Thanks to everyone for all their gripes and fixes. I bought this unit (SA12587) at walmart when I lived in Las Vegas and have (3) 5 gal. bottles that I filled each week at store dispensers due to the horrible state of potable water in southern Nevada. I moved to Massachusetts and packed it well with shipping foam and even though the movers shipped it upside-down, when I unpacked it it worked fine. We don't use the hot water function because it heats up the other reservoirs when left on a few hours. When I fill the bottles I wrap some plastic wrap around the top and invert it quickly (no rubber band) while holding the wrap and the plastic gets punctured every time. I am going down to a local water cooler store (Ayer, MA) and see if they can get me one of those ball valve caps that others have written about earlier in the blog. I love the little fridge option, which goes as low as 38F and keeps my beverages frosty. My cold water lever broke last night and calls to Elite today at 2 of their numbers inform me that they are closed for Canadian Thanksgiving. , so off I go to the local store. I have no hopes that this will survive another year. Bought for $99 so I guess I got my money's worth. Next one will NOT have a hot water option and will be another brand. Good luck, everyone!

When I pulled the water bottle and top of the cooler off it had a huge block of ice in it. After thawing the block I replaced all the parts and works like a charm. Recommendation, unplug for a couple of days. Check the temp settings ( I put mine at 3 now ) and adjust..Good luck Or you can do it the hard way, and take it apart like myself.....

got the YLR2-5-90CH3 over 6 years ago from Zellers as a gift. The blue cold water tap broke and I replaced it with the red spare. Now all three taps are broken. Twice I had a leak. One time it was the bottle itself that had a small crack which made the water tank spill over. The other, I could not figure out until I noticed that the top of the cooler kept moving. I dismantled the cooler and found that everything inside were disconnected. I cleaned out the resovoir and got the manual out. Step by step as shown in the manual, I reconnected everything and haven't had a problem since. I only need to replace the broken taps. So for those of you who have a problem with leaks, you might want to check that there is nothing loose within your cooler. Hope this helps.

I moved into a new house and when I set up the cooler at the new location it started leaking. I took of the top and called the number on the back and they sent me some replacement parts. I'm waiting for them to arrive. It seems like a good fix might be what someone mentioned about the 3/8 copper piece to replace the knobs. Can anyone tell me a little more about this? Thanks

I have a YLR2-5-24H2 and the hot-water tap broke. I called Elite @ 1-877-383-6399 and ordered my replacement tap (even though the cooler is under warranty the taps are excluded - how convenient). I had to sign a waiver via fax releasing them from liability if I put it on myself... how obnoxious (considering the tap didn't even last 2 years and considering this thread an numerous others I would say this is a known problem). I received it a week later - putting it on today.

Do you have a phone # that my husband, Jim could call you at to discuss the problem we are having with our Sunbeam countertop water cooler. If so, could you please e-mail that phone # to my brother's e-mail address wolffden@mchsi.com. I am using his compluter to generate this request. Thank you, Gail Smith

I have had one for years and leaked once after I took apart to clean . Was the little rubber part shaped to a point, I called and they sent me another part (actually some extra parts) works great though now I am trouble finding a filter as Menards stopped carrying one

Same problems as all of the above. But not complaining (since there really is no one to complain to!!). Just had to write to let you know that Goggle is running ads for Sunbeam water dispensers and parts on this blog site. (Top right corner!!!) Unbelievable nerve!!!! PS: WHAT FILTER???? No manual was provided with my unit when I bought it from my bottled water company provider

Does any one out there know what might be the problem with my water dispenser? Just recently after putting a replacement water jug on the unit I found a HUGE mess on my kitchen floor after several hours had passed by. I don't know why it just started to leak! Any help out there would be appreciated. carmelferreira@gmal.com Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

Have had a Sunbeam water dispenser for three years now. Has worked really well aside from the time two of my co-workers decided to take it apart for cleaning and couldn't remember how to put it back together! But a month ago for no apparent reason, it quit heating and cooling the water. Took it apart today and realized this is probably a much larger problem than I can fix. I think for the most part, things like this are through away units, so rather than stress over finding parts and attempting to fix - it will be thrown away when the room temp water quits! Then on to more expensive stainless steel model!

Concerning the messy time when changing te bottle. I got an extra lid, drilled a 1' hole in it. Icut square pieces of wax paper. Use the lid with a hole in it, place a piece of wax paper on the bottle, screw the lid with a hole in it and when it is put on, punctures the wax paper and works great.

We purchased a Sunbeam water cooler in Sept 08 and by January 09, it had quit cooling. Technical support (ha) gave us a process to reset thermostat, blah blah, never worked. Unit is toast. Now they want to refund 50% of purchase price and WANT ME TO SEND IN A PIECE OF THE POWER CORD! Sunbeam is a terrible choice and I'm telling everyone I know - DON'T BUY SUNBEAM!!

We bought our Sunbeam water cooler about 3 years ago. No problems at all until 2 handles snapped in the last 3 days. The blue one I tipped up, drilled a hole through, and then ran a #8 bolt through it into a large wire nut. It works better than the original! The red one is more of a problem. I did swap the white for the red and wrote HOT on it, but I am nervous about that. Thanks for posting bottle opener tip, I'll try that. Regular 5 gal water bottles works great if you cover the top with double-thickness of heavy duty alum foil and crip tight around the neck with your hands. Very little spills out. Also, put the bottle on slowly so it doesn't "gush" back out as the bottle seats.

I had a similar problem with the Sunbeam taps. I use tap water with a PureMountainSpring water filter on my water cooler instead of the Sunbeam filters (better taste, quality, and lower cost), and although the taps are not listed on their web site PureWaterFilters.net, if you call them (800 451 4133) they will send you new taps for a reasonable price.

I called Sunbeam about my button that is stuck on my YL2-27CH2. The button gets stuck after you push it in, and the water continues to pour out. When I called 1-877-383-6399, I was told to bring the water cooler to a repair shop so the spring behind the button could be replaced. So, they want me to pay to have this unit repaired.

i had have the same problems after only 8 month with this POS waterdispenser. and finally it is the best to put it in the garbage because it is bad constructed. for those who wants to keep it: in my case the water was leaking out of the dispenser with bottle on it (it happen three times to me) because the bottle has a hairline crack somewhere,.. most in the bottom area.(i found out by testing a empty bottle with putting airpressure on it) about that its the way that as long the bottle is originally closed and can create vacuum with hair crack closed by the water about its specific gravity .. it will not leak. as soon as you put it on the machine the hair crack can suck air and the bottle loose its ability to create vacuum. the machine itself is not build to keep up with this higher waterpressure now and will start leaking as long there is water in the bottle. so,.. i check every time the bottles and take only a bottle that looks very clean without scratches on the bottom till i have time to go to buy a new machine. the hot and cold waterhandles are the very cheapest available,... shame on the manufacturer because of the price they are selling this cheap builded waterdispenser.

Need information on how to remove bad taste in water from home Sunbeam water cooler.

posted by Wayne on: Mar 29, 2009 01:10pm

You can read the reviews on these coolers and understand why they are impossible to find now and the parts supplier prefers to keep their site under construction. I managed to keep mine going for 4 years before the two cold water levers snapped. The hot one didn´t because we don´t use it. It is easier to throw this piece of crap into the junk bin than to find parts.....and go buy a good one. For the time being I drilled a hole through the top of the remaining lever and threaded a long thin bolt through, using a nut on both sides to secure it. It works well enough for now. It is a good advertisement for Sunbeam products when someone comes into the house and sees it. Unfortunate, since most of their actual products are good.

Hi there , we are on our 2nd sunbeam water cooler , the problem is the same each time , the replacement cooler (from home depot) has now died. Here is what happens. The hot water heater goes crazy and melts the plastic part with the nipple on it,and then the gasket no longer seals the water tank area , and there you have it , HUGE FLOOD EVERY TIME ! Trying to find parts for this is IMPOSSIBLE . you can't even find a listing for them on Sunbeams site. BS !

Where can I get replacement parts for the water levers?

posted by John on: Apr 9, 2009 09:55am

Thats what you get when you buy a piece of junk from a retailer that sells whatever they can get their hands on the cheapest to turn a quick buck! Because of these bastards selling coolers and cutting into my livelihood, I am struggling to pay my bills in the bottled water industry I grew up in. You people buy bottled water from hardware stores and coolers from kmart and walmart, well throw it away when it breaks! Pretend it is a expensive toaster! If you would have bought one from a local water service they would have all the knowledge and parts to keep the quality equipment they sell going. Keep buying those pieces of crap that cost $20 to produce. Those manufactures don't have a parts department, or repair men. Costs too much. If it breaks during the short warranty period they replace the junk machine and throw your old one in a landfill. even if it is a three dollar hot thermostat! God bless America!

Two of my spigots broke on this cooler. I called Sunbeam customer support (1-877-383-6399). They were really friendly and knew exactly what part needed to be replaced. I was so happy until the end of the call when they asked for a CREDIT CARD... the charge is $13 for each spigot!!! I told the woman that I paid something like $60 for this unit and to pay $13 for a piece of plastic that costs .04 cents to product is an insult to the consumer. I told her that I WILL NEVER BUY SUNBEAM AGAIN. She kindly replied.."that is your prerogative"...yes it is!

I ordered 2 of the red taps and they were shipped in about 2 weeks. I cut the safety off (no young kids around)so it won't break again. Make sure you drain as much water out as you can before changing and use some plumbers tape to get a good seal. If you want to know how to load a refill bottle without spilling, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxmNlsy3uUM

One trick I use to keep water from spilling all over the place is to use a piece of folded aluminum foil formed over the end of the bottle. Hold the foil in place as you load the bottle on the cooler and the foil will be punctured. This leaks only a little but works great.

solution for sunbeam broken handles - finally found I too have had both the hot and cold handles recently break. I found a solution that works perfectly and cheaply. Crystal mountain also makes water coolers and I found that you can swap the guts of their spigots which includes the plastic handle and screw it into the black spigot of the sunbeam. So - step by step - unscrew the spigot from the cooler. unscrew the black top of the spigot and pull out all of the guts. Do the same with the new one from crystal mountain. Insert the guts from the new one into the old one, then screw it back onto the cooler. Better yet, crystal mountain sells these replacement parts to their cooler sales outlets, so they are readily available. They are cheaper than the replacement parts from elite classics, and apparently better made and will last longer. I paid 6.95 each, and fixed in five minutes. You can contact crystal mountain and they will tell you where a local distributor is @ 1 800 878 6422 Good luck- -elite classics never again
