Listening To Many New Ideas

Published October 16, 2009

RustyBrick IdeasRustyBrick is in the business of building out ideas into web applications, software, design and apps. That is what we do throughout the whole process, from the initial sales process to the process of building out the idea into a reality.

Since one of my jobs is to handle the new prospects, I get the opportunity to hear lots of ideas. I probably hear a new idea or two every day. Some of the ideas are good, some are bad, some are horrible, some have been done before and some are incredible. Oh, yes, some seem to be a scam, while most seem legit.

It is really a pleasure to hear these ideas. Most of the time, these people/businesses don't bother requesting I sign an NDA. Most people trust me - they do, I am not sure why. Maybe it is because my lack of sales skills or maybe because of my clever salesmanship approach? People trust me with their ideas.

Hearing so many ideas, time and time again - you often become numb to them. When I hear a great idea, I don't often express that with my emotion. And often, I am wrong about ideas. I have told several people that I dislike their idea and it then becomes pretty popular. So hearing so many ideas, over and over again, with such diversity and creativity put into the ideas - they tend to dampen my senses on knowing if an idea is great or not. Or maybe it just takes a really great idea to get my juices flowing? I am not sure.

I do know that I am very happy to be in a position to listen to all these ideas. Then, if we have the privilege to get "the job," I even love making these ideas into a reality. An idea is often just a short concept - but taking that concept, building detail into the concept and deploying it in a usable platform - that is what really makes me smile.
