Water Cooler Puncture

Published May 25, 2010

I see a gathering of coders outside my office, around the water cooler. They are trying to find out why the water cooler is leaking all over the place. One said to look for a hole in the bottle. After some investigation work (almost used windex to find the hole) we found it. We were thinking of covering the hole with gum, tape and even chop sticks, but ended up going a different route.

As you can see, we used an empty water bottle to transfer the water from the broken water bottle into a good one. To help automate the process, since we are all about automation, Ronnie stacked a box of paper under the bottle to hold it in place and secured the lever in the down position.

The water is now transferred but now we have a mess to clean up. Lots of water in the carpet from the spill.

This situation reminds me of a very old blog post on our Sunbeam Water Cooler leaking. You should see the number of comments on that post - about 400 now, from people with the same issue.
