DoorBot (Ring) Was Acquired By Amazon For $1B

Doorbot

Back in early 2013 I bought something on a Kickstarter like crowdfunding site named the DoorBot. It was a doorbell that was also a camera and two-way communication device.  I loved the concept, ordered it and waited until early 2014 for mine to arrive. Well, that same company rebranded to Ring later in 2014.  Fastforward to 2018, it was just acquired by Amazon for $1B, yes, one-billion dollars.

I still have the email from Jamie Siminoff, the founder of the company, with the "backer" details and status of the DoorBot.  It actually included his personal email and his mobile phone number. I blurred out those details but here is the email:

The original DoorBot was cool but very buggy. I then got the upgraded Ring model and it has been very solid.

I am so happy to see good people win.

To learn more about the company and the history, check out their Wikipedia profile.  Oh, and I love the Ring, I buy them as presents for family and I highly recommend it. No, I have no investment in the company.
