Google Maps Sees All 4 Seasons At the Same Time

Published March 11, 2010

I was doing some programming with geocodes and I came up to this area on google maps. As you can see from this picture, you can clearly see Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall in one section of map!  How beautiful is that?

Move around the map and the underlying technology of map tiles become evident.  A lake is cut in half, snow covers part of a farm and not the other part, etc.  If you zoom out, everything becomes green.  This shows that Google uses different map tiles from different times for different zoom levels.  I just had to share.

The link to this cool bean is here.
